Comment out assignment in if statement.
As upstream is aware of the error, but does not want to correct it to
keep existing behaviour, we do the same. However, the assignment in the
if statement has no effect, since the variable is reassigned in the body
of the if statement. So we comment it out to prevent it from causing any
errors during compilation.
